I couldn't resist a Mother's Day DIY

This Mother's day I wanted to take a modern day approach to an old school tradition. Corsages used to be all the rage to give to yo mama' on Sunday morning before church or brunch. It was a way to tag her and say "you're it today" for all the world to see ;.) I have noticed this tradition has sort of died amongst my generation and I felt like I needed to resurrect the idea with a modern twist. Which is so funkytastic! So I decided to make this:
Imagine your pretty mama sporting these ribbon lovelies! It would also be fantastic to use in a shadow box long after the celebration is over.
So if you're interested here we go...a makin' some ribbon roses ;.)

****You MUST use wired ribbon for this project. The first step is to pull the wire out from one side of your piece of ribbon as shown above. Scrunch the ribbon down on the side of the exposed wire to create a little ruffle. Then fold the end of the ribbon down to start to create the center of the rose. Then you simply begin twisting and wrapping the ribbon around and around, fluffing it out as you go. When you have come to the end of the ribbon Take the exposed wire and begin securing it around the rose to hold all layers in place. I hope this doesn't sound too confusing and that the pictures help to show what I did....sorry folks, I think I failed the "how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich" paper assignment in school ;.) After making as many ribbon roses as you want, varying all sizes and colors, you can then mix them with other flowers which you can make out of felt or even purchase at the craft store for cheapsies. I did ;.)

Then you either stitch or hot glue all of them together, bunched up on a piece of felt you can use as backing. I then hot glued a pin on the back which I found in the jewelry section at the craft store. BAM! There you have an amazing, modern, ribbon rose corsage. Now if that doesn't make you and your mama wanna slap yourself then I don't know what would, haha!
Let me just take a moment to yell, "happy Mama's Day" to all of you out there. This is my first one and I cannot wait to spend it with my little man.
***a few hours old....I feel like it was just yesterday...my oh my how 7 months have flown by! Can't wait to see you crazy kids back here on Monday and hear all about how you spent your special weekend with your mother's, grandmothers, husbands, best friends, and children!
