A clumsy gal's worry...

I showed you guys this sleeping beauty last week, which now resides next to my bed.

I seriously love her and now that I have had time to live with her for a little while, I have had just long enough to start to worry. Yep, worry is seriously my middle name. Ok, it's not but it should be. I quickly realized that I had a lot of purposes for my bedside table. It is a desk, a drink holder, an ipad & computer work station, a book-magazine catch all, & even my daily jewelry's bestie. Busy little table, right?! So protection from getting scratched by sippy cups, drink stains, and all things Courtney, was a must. I needed to stop my use abuse.

I quickly perused my fabric stash & threw together a mini "table runner" for my best bedside gal. It won't stay there for photo shoots & it won't be getting design of the year award any time soon. But I do in fact think that she will be best dressed. I was just thrilled to have solved my daily use dilemma & make it more usable for me. After all, it can be pretty but if it isn't functional it's bon voyage & I don't think I can stand to part from her.

It was so simple to make. All I needed was an iron, hot glue gun, scrap fabric, lace (which I used as a stencil), gold spray paint, & a pair of scissors.

I first cut the fabric to fit across the table top and ironed it flat. I then used my scissors to trim those pesky little threads that keep fraying along the way.

I then hot glued a nice "hem" all the way around the fabric, this method known as the Courtney wasn't willing to sew that day, method... worked fantastically.
The last steps are super simple but a must for such a fancy mirrored table. I laid out a flat piece of lace over the runner and spray painted it with leftover gold paint (like I did when I made gift wrap). I allowed it to dry out in the sun for a few hours which helped to also get rid of the paint fumes. My cost was $0 and the pay off was priceless.
It may not look like such an exciting technique but I loved how it looks draped across the table now. And not having to worry about putting something on top of my bedside beauty is such a relief. I can now sip my tea or snack on my toast, play with my ipad or plop down my stack of magazines with no damage or worry, which is worth the time investment of this project.

*I also want to give you guys a heads up that alittleglassbox will be getting a little facelift soon. If you visit one day & the ole' gal looks different, don't be alarmed. She's just getting down with her fashion forward self & trying on the idea of change for a new year & new growth possibilities. CONTACT me for Etsy shop ad opportunities.
