Bag it {Beach beauty, low cost}

It's my favorite day of the week! It's Tuesday and that means it's another day in our Summer series.
Today is all about fashion. And one of the most important fashionable items for me in the summer is a fun and bright beach bag. That perfect bag you can just grab and go and throw down into the sand. Load it full of lotion, books, ipod, cell phone, your favorite sunglasses and hair rubber band. However, the ones I always fall in love with are either too expensive or too big for what I need it for, so I decided to make my own. It came in at $16.49 total and only took me an hour to make. Seriously. It is a no sew beach beauty (because I am sewing machine lazy/impaired).

To make the bag I used
1 yard of outdoor water/fade resistant fabric ($7.99)
Duct tape (I prefer white $2.50 with coupon)
Stapler and staples
6 feet of Three strand rope (from West Marine $6.00)
Scissors & iron (if wrinkled)

*This is the most unspecific description of how I made this bag because truthfully I am not exact at all. I would be lying if I said I measured out and followed rules for making this. I am a wing it kind of gal. So I took pictures to try and show you how I did it. Best advice-don't over think it.

I love how it came out. The best part is it's durable, affordable, and you can make it any size you want. You can also add fun grommets to the handles as well as play around with any kind of color combo.

Now I have to persuade the Hubs to take me to the beach so I can sport it around in the sand.

*And if you're not interested in stapling it because you're classier than I am....you can use no sew hem tape or easily sew it on the machine.
What do you guys think? It is totally worthy of wearing this summer?

  14. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have been struggling with linings for purses and handbags for a while now. Using twice the amount of fabric and tucking it into itself solves so many problems and headaches! Thank you!!!!!

  16. I know this was two years ago (almost exactly!), but where did you get that fabric from? It is almost perfect for another project of mine..
