8 years

Today is not only an amazing day for our country (I am waving my virtual flag in true American spirit). But it's also the day that celebrates 8 years of being married to this guy...

To those who have been married for a lot longer than me, I welcome all the advice you have because if I have learned anything it's that marriage is an ever changing journey that must constantly grow and adapt. To those who have been married as long as I have, we all are rock stars this day in age...and to those getting ready to get hitched ,here are a few things I have learned along the way...

1. Getting married is an amazing privilege and there is a lot of love, tolerance, and forgiveness that make up each day. However, there WILL BE days where you just want to strangle your partner. This too is something you want to do out of love.
2. Going to the bathroom with the door open should NEVER happen. Like never, ever.
3. Little things like toast crumbs, toothpaste evidence, and dirty socks are enough to send you over the edge.
4. A hug has amazing healing powers.
5. The bigger the bed, the happier you'll be.
6. Having children is a beautiful thing, but it does make it harder...don't let people fool you.
7. The SAME EXACT words can mean two very different things to two different people.
8. Always be courteous, courteous, courteous.
9. You need separate lives in order to come together.
10. Boys are just way stinkier than girls.
11. Laughing is key. Reality tv helps with this.
12. Money sucks.
13. Dreams are important.
14. Your spouses family cannot define your newly created family.
and last but not least....
15. Alcohol is sometimes required or at least a strong box of chocolates...and LIFETIME channel should never be referred to as "WIFETIME" network. Trust this gentlemen.

I hope these "pearls of wisdom" come in handy to all of you, or at least you can find some humor in them.

I hope you all have an awesome election day and embrace history being made no matter who you voted for. Love one another.

  1. Oh my gosh, Happy Anniversary!! My husband and I are celebrating our 2nd anniversary today! I feel giddy like a little kid about that coincidence, this being my favorite blog and feeling like I know you from reading it:) I hope you all have an absolutely wonderful day today, best wishes from Tennessee!

  2. Awwww Christine you're always so sweet & make my day! Happy Happy 2nd anniversary! I'm so excited awe share the special date ;.)

  3. yall are just too cute! #5 is awesome!

  4. Congrats to you and your sweetie! I love your list of advice...#3 is my biggie! Can you say "please throw the empty roll of toilet paper in the trash and replace it with a new roll." I mean really! Whew! My blood pressure is going up just thiking about it!LOL!

  5. Congrats! I love your list! Totally agree about the bathroom and the same words meaning different things haha! We just celebrated out 5th anniversary last week :)

  6. I love that you admit alcohol is a necessity sometimes. It really is, in moderation of course.

Congrats on 8 years! That's quite the accomplishment. My wedding isn't until next summer, but my fiancee and I have been living together for almost 4 years and have a 2 year old daughter, so sometimes it feels like the wedding is just a formality.

The one thing I'll add to your list is that while it's incredibly important to have separate lives, it's also crucial to find common ground - something the two of you are equally excited about and can enjoy together on a regular basis (for me and my hubby it's Showtime television!!) bonding over something you both love besides each other is the key to open communication!!

  7. Hi Courtney, just stopping by to say how delightful your blog is. Thanks so much for sharing. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

  8. What a sweet, wonderful post, Courtney!! Your positive outlook on life is always inspiring. Happy anniversary!!!!

  9. Hey Court! Thanks for the tippers - seeing as Josh and I are only a month in! We've got #11 covered. Our favorite to induce laughter is "Ridiculousness" with Rob Drydek! It cracks us up everytime!

I love to hear your thoughts lovelies! Comment away!
