my relationship with design {having regrets}

Y'all are going to think I have lost my mind and gone bananas. I wish I could blame my craziness on something cool like the aaaallllcooohool (thanks Jamie Foxx). However, I'm going to blame it on being sick. Yes, folks for the last two days I was held up in bed and barricaded by a wall of tissues. True story. While being forced to take a little downtime in the confines of my pre-made over bedroom I decided I am changing the design. Yep, I said it. Don't be mad at my indecisiveness please.  It's a funny relationship that I have with design. When I am asked to design for other people it comes a lot easier than when I am needing to design a room for myself or my family. I sort of have freak out moments with a side of 'I doubt myself', as if it's the last time I'm going to design my own space. Which deep down I know is ludicrous  So, I rid myself of my fear while laying in bed sick (yes, I'm a great multitask-er). And I am allowing myself to change the plan before I get too much more into it. So far nothing I've done can't be reconfigured.
I think that I wasn't in love with the design as much as I hoped because when I was originally designing the room I wanted to do it as inexpensively as possible. However, now I am starting to feel regret ever thinking that way about such an intimate space. I would much rather put my hard earned alitteglassbox bucks into a space surrounding myself with things that I truly love and save up for/splurge on... and cut back on some things that don't matter (and DIY when I feel like I can). I don't want to waste both my time and money wanting to redo it in another year or two. You feel me?
So here is where my head is at these days... I pulled some of my very favorite inspiration pictures that I pinned up on Pinterest and I am going to use bits and pieces from all of them to make my bedroom happen. I am still going to go with natural layers but with pops of 'unexpected'. You know how I do. Here are some of my inspiration images. I apologize now for the two without original sources.

They all have such a different feel and offer such a different aesthetic that it will be interesting to see how my room puts itself together & what ultimate style it creates. It will also be a different experience for me to try and translate a feeling I get when I look at a picture of a well designed space & make it into a real functioning bedroom of my own. So wish me luck on the revised plan. I still plan on trying to have all of the "bones" of the room in place no later than March.
Do you guys ever change your mind as much as I change mine? Or am I the only designaphob of our group?
I hope to have a fun Valentine project for you tomorrow if I can get out of bed long enough to finish it, so say prayers that cupid can make an appearance at my house.

Have an awesome Thursday!

  2. You're by no means the only designaphob of the group! I can't tell you how many times I change my mind on the design of a room before actually implementing it. When my hubs and I purchased our house, he told me I couldn't do or buy anything major for a year, needless to say, I was NOT happy about that. But it turned out to be the biggest blessing in disguise! I changed the design for our living room probably 10 times and I'm so grateful that I had the time to figure out what I really wanted and what would work best in the space. Now I'm in the same boat you are, trying to determine what I want to do with our bedroom. The only thing I know for sure is I want to layer grays, whites and ivory & the only thing I've bought is this fabric: https://secure.designerfabrics.ca/shop/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=20087 thanks to the fabulous Sarah Richardson and one of her designs! So that brain dump was all to say, don't worry about changing your design, in the end you'll probably be happier because of it! And as my girl Audrey says, "happy girls are the prettiest!" :)

  3. I change my mind all the time on my designs for my condo. I think I've figured out what I want to do start working on it and then a couple days later I change my mind. I do it on my blog design also. So your not alone!

  4. I didn't want to say it, but that first room design did not feel like Courtney to me. Not that it wasn't pretty and everything though! Do your room how you really want and you'll be much happier! You always end up with something beautiful no matter what you're working on. Also, I love that you add in bold punches (like the lovely late miss coral!) and are true to yourself. Good luck designing!

  5. Courtney, I love you girl!! This is the story of my life. I am so indecisive...I guess that's why after 9 months (of living in our new house) I still don't have curtains up, IN ANY ROOM!! I blame it on the lack of money. The truth is I just can't make up my mind. Trust your gut and surround yourself with things that you love, and it turn out beautifully!

  6. This makes me feel so much better. I've just about finished my baby nursery, she's not even born yet, and I'm second guessing it. Which has made me feel paralyzed. You're in good company

  9. I feel you! I can walk into people's houses and design for them and organize for them but I find my own house so difficult. almost paralyzing. It is like it will the last time it will be designed and i cannot hammer a nail into a wall without fear that it will be in the WRONG place. I constantly second guess my self. buying something causes a panic because what if it is ALL WRONG. I have lived in my ouse for 7 years and I feel like it is just starting to come together :)
