polka dots {& panda hats}

All of you have been with me on this journey of transitioning Oliver's room to more of a toddlers haven instead of a baby boy's paradise. Even though it's not quite finished, I must say the Hubs & I are pretty blessed. Oliver adores getting lost in his room & discovering the world of castles, battling pirate ships, and make believe sword fights. My boy has quite the imagination and I encourage his creativity & exploration as he is becoming more and more independent.

Over the holidays we gave our little knight his very own big boy bed so that his adventures could continue in his room as he grows. He did not resist the change & has been found from time to time jumping on his bed like a little monkey. As excited as I am about the design shifts in his room, he reminds me that at the end of the day it's about his memories of playing in a space created for him out of love. As well as the glorious adventures of one little man sent to battle evil pirates and save princesses while wearing a panda hat & polka dot socks. Here are a few pictures of me playing around with the look of the bed. As well as a few shots of my little man playing (I want to remember these moments for always).

This charming bed (a.k.a. Oliver's occasional trampoline) was actually an Ikea purchase. When we first  got it home we quickly realized it was a custom size that did not fit his current mattress and I was bummed I didn't catch that in the store. And since I refused to drive back to Emeryville & because I didn't want to have to purchase an additional mattress/bedding etc. the Hubs took to it in the shed & showed it who was boss. We cut evenly on both sides so that the railings kept the original design and we drilled holes where the others used to be. With a quick reassemble and an old mattress insert later, we were totally thrilled with this stud. However, I must confess that this will not be the last modification this bed see's. I am envisioning a homemade duvet cover as well as a little color tweak so stay tuned.

I hope that Wednesday treats you all well. Just keep on hustling my peeps.
