I want it for less {framed art}

Wednesday is quickly becoming my favorite day of the week on the ole' blog. I hope you guys are enjoying the "want it for less" series as much as I am. My latest money saving find is actually a "2fer". Which means it's twice as fun.
I've been on the hunt for new artwork for the master bedroom but wasn't quite sure which direction I wanted to go. Black and white photos, a painting, framed prints, large wall mirror....it felt like the world of art was getting bigger and bigger to choose from. Until I found fine art photographer Kari Herer & instantly fell in love with her work & her amazingly creative esty shop. When looking at her photographs I imagined one framed in a beautiful mirror frame that I recently spotted at West Elm. The problem was that it was going to be a little bit more than I had allotted in my budget. So before I tweaked the numbers to make it work, I wanted to see if I could create the look for less.

And thanks to Target getting all trendy in home decor (frame $34.95) and Ikea for offering a beautiful print of a Kari Herer photograph (a steal at $3), I was absolutely able to create the same look for less. Wooo whooo!

 Here is my "imitation" version, which I am head over heels for.

And with a $60 savings I was able to use that money towards additional artwork for the space which I cannot wait to share with you guys (hopefully next week). And I must say, I am loving the bunny and flowers with Spring in the near future and Easter on the horizon.

So what do you guys think?! A steal right. Now I want to hear from you. Let me know what kinds of things you want to save money on. Fashion, home decor, DIY projects etc. etc. I would love to get your input so we can continue to grow this series.

See you thrifty peeps tomorrow.

  1. Love, love, love it! This is the first I've seen Kari Herer's artwork, can I just say FABULOUS! It's so whimsical... I think a grouping in a nursery would be dreamy. Did you do the metallic dots on the mat or buy it that way? As far as what I would like to see on this wonderful series, I'm going to go with option D: all of the above! But I do especially love the home decor.

  2. I love yours so much more than the inspiration piece! I think it's the super cute dotted matting.

  3. Thanks guys! I simply covered the mat that came in the frame with some leftover paper I already had from the little man's lampshade project. I actually purchased the paper from paper source.

  5. Hi Meg! Thanks so much. I really am not sure it was just a normal Target brand. I looked and I no longer have the packaging to be able to see it. Best of luck & sorry I couldn't help you more. xoxo
